Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are stressful events occurring in childhood and have been shown to adversely affect physical, mental and emotional function, health and well-being in adulthood.
According to Health Scotland, ACEs include the following but they are as wide ranging and as individual as the child experiencing them:
  • domestic violence

  • parental abandonment through separation or divorce

  • a parent with a mental health condition

  • being the victim of abuse (physical, sexual and/or emotional)

  • being the victim of neglect (physical and emotional)

  • a member of the household being in prison

  • growing up in a household in which there are adults experiencing alcohol and drug use problems.

 
There is much that can be done to offer hope and healing with holistic approaches. Holistic medicine and therapy considers all aspects of you as an individual, and I understand that you are not your experiences but a unique individual whose responses, reactions, emotions and behaviours are a result of what has happened to you and not necessarily an authentic expression of who you are. I bring personal witness and experience to my trauma work.
It is incredibly important to outline here the scope of the services I offer. I am NOT a Psychotherapist, Counsellor, Psychiatrist, Mental Health Professional, GP or medical professional and I do NOT diagnose ACEs, Trauma, PTSD and CPTSD. I am a holistic, psychic and spiritual healer and this is the approach and services I offer in this area. Most of my clients attend with me after they have explored many different avenues and many feel that they had wished they had contacted me earlier rather than seeing holistic healing as a 'last resort'. This is often due to finding the processes involved in many conventional approaches to have been traumatising in themselves, adding to the distress and helplessness they feel.
 
My healing approaches for ACEs include Bioenergetic Medicine therapies to support self compassion and emotional resilience; Holistic Bodywork provides awareness of, and a gentle and gradual reconnection with, our physical bodies, encouraging a positive self image; Shamanic Healing is a healing modality recognised as being used successfully for people living with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and helps us to retrieve both our own personal power that has been taken from us and soul parts that have fragmented during times of trauma, returning to us what is rightfully ours.
